Delhi government includes widows under ‘Dilli Annashree Yojana’

Sheila-Dikshit1The government of the national capital, Delhi has approved a decision to include widows under the `Dilli Annashree Yojana'.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit pointed out that the scheme will now also cover windows in the capital and that all those enrolled with the scheme will get the benefits from April 1, 2013. She also said that the implementation of the scheme must be speeded up to make sure that a larger number of families get benefits.

She pointed out that the government is planning to launch a large campaign on FM radio channels to make sure that the people are aware about the scheme. The cases enrolled up to July 31, 2013 will get benefits with retrospective effect from April 1, 2012. Ms. Dikshit also said that the scheme will continue to provide benefits after July in order to assist families that are not covered under the public distribution system in the capital.

The Delhi government cabinet also permitted Vigilance Committees of the Food and Civil Supplies Department under the chairmanship of the MLAs to recommend upto 500 cases for enrolment under the scheme. It is expected that there will be a cap of 500 forms per constituency.
