Danger of dengue still prevalent in Ludhiana35 fresh cases of dengue were reported in Ludhiana. These new cases revealed that despite the various steps taken by government authorities to prevent dengue, fresh cases of dengue are pouring in at various hospitals across the city everyday. 

The overall number of cases has touched the 3,500 mark with over 400 cases put in the suspected cases category and over 1,000 patients being treated at the hospitals in the city hailing from other parts of the state.

Till now 32 dengue deaths have been reported by The Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) while the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) has registered 20 deaths since the disease spread in the district. According to sources, the number of unofficial deaths has crossed the 50 mark. Jalandhar and Patiala are also affected by dengue. 

Dr Kanwal Masih, Medical Superintendent (MS) at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) said in an interview: “What we see is only the tip of the iceberg. Only the serious cases are being referred to the bigger hospitals, while there might be many more who have tested positive for the virus. I think the actual figures of those affected with the disease could be three times the projected number. It is the first time the scenario has worsened so much.”
