CPI-M Politburo to chalk out future Third Front strategies

New Delhi, Feb 25: Congress and BJPA meeting of the politburo of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) is taking place here to chalk out future strategies for forming a third alternative to the BJP and the Congress.

Suggesting a possible realignment of forces at the national level, the CPI-M has said the Left parties have the responsibility of initiating the process for a non-Congress, non-BJP alternative.

The CPI-M is insisting that the Third Front cannot be a mere electoral alliance but should be founded on the three principles of consistent opposition to communalism, agreement on a common minimum programme and a firm commitment to an independent foreign policy and pro-people economic policy.

The meeting would also give final touches to the CPI (M)'s Political-Organisational Report to be adopted by the Party Congress slated in March-April at Coimbatore, party sources said.

The 'Pol-Org Report', which outlines the organisational strengths and weaknesses of the party, is likely to underline the import of greater coordination with other Left parties in the wake of serious differences that have arisen, particularly in West Bengal over the Nandigram issue. (ANI)
