Comtel Air asks passengers for money for fuel
Austria-based Comtel Air has set a shameful practice by asking flight passengers flying form Amritsar in India to Birmingham in the UK, at the Veinna stop to pay for fuel if they wished to reach their destination.
The airline staff asked more than 180 passengers to step out of the aircraft because it had "ran out of cash to fund the last leg of the trip." The passengers decided to stay on the plane and were informed that the flight will only continue its journey if 23,400 euros were given by the passengers.
The local Austrian police had to get involved during the six-hour confrontation between the passengers and the airline staff. The passenger was then escorted to the cash point machines. Many young and elderly passengers did not have money and had to borrow from others as hey were told that their luggage would be removed from the airline if they did not pay the price.
More than 600 people on four different flights are found t have been involved in the issue now. A spokesman for Birmingham Airport has said that it is asking for details about delays of Austrian aircrafts.
The incident comes a day after another set of passengers on the same route were forced to pay 20,000 pounds in order to complete their journey.
