CIBC plans to offer Sunday Banking in Canada

Vancouver – By the end of this year, Canadians will be able to use banking services on Sunday as well. Canada’s fifth largest bank, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) has announced that the bank will operate on Sunday as well at some select locations.

In an official statement, Mr. Doug Maybee said that six branches of CIBC in Vancouver and central Toronto will open on Sunday. The new banking hours will be decided in order to help shoppers in the shopping season. The specific date for start of services has not been announced yet. CIBC will be the first bank in Canada to offer services on Sunday. CIBC also offers 24-hour service over the phone and online.

Sonia Baxendale, Senior Executive V.P. at CIBC said in a statement, "By offering Sunday branch banking hours, we are providing our clients with greater flexibility, access and choice that will allow them to better meet their banking needs -- when they want, where they want and how they want."

Mr. Maybee has not ruled out the possibility of extending the services to other branches. At the same time, he maintained that this is the just the beginning, some more services may be announced soon for benefit of customers.
