Centre holding high-level meet to review security after serial blasts

New Delhi, July 27 : Union Home Minister Shivraj PatilUnion Home Minister Shivraj Patil is convening a high-level here today to review security situation in the country.

A meeting of relevant government institutions and officials will begin at 11:00 am to establish the cause behind the Ahmedabad and Bangalore blasts, and to mull what steps were needed to counter this menace.

Meanwhile, a group describing itself as the “Indian Mujahideen” that had sent an e-mail claiming responsibility for the Ahmedabad serial blasts and warning of possible attacks in future, has been traced.

This is said to be the same group that had sent e-mails after the Jaipur blasts in May 2008.

The anti-terrorism squad is investigating the source of the email.

Just before the blasts took place, the Indian Mujahideen had sent an e-mail to a TV channel saying that there would be blasts in Ahmedabad.

The group had e-mailed video clips to two Delhi-based media organisations of a bicycle which, it said, was purportedly packed with explosives used in the blasts.

After the 17 blasts, in which 40 people were killed and 100 others were injured, the Intelligence Bureau and various media houses received another e-mail. The group sent a 14-page manifesto email to select TV channels. Titled “The Rise of Jihad”, the manifesto says the bombings were carried out to avenge the 2002 anti-Muslim violence in Gujarat.

It warns of future attacks, complaining that the police “disturbed us by arresting, imprisoning, and torturing our brothers in the name of SIMI [Students Islamic Movement of India].” (ANI)
