CBI report for case closure rejected by Court

CBI report for case closure rejected by CourtA serious turn came in for the cash-in-bag case when on Friday; the CBI's closure report was rejected by the special CBI magistrate, who also instructed the agency to carry further investigation in it.

These orders were passed by special CBI magistrate Darshan Singh, who suspended a petition filed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association opposing the CBI's request for case closure.

The next hearing in the case would be heard on 26th May. The locus standi and its maintainability were the grounds on which the court dismissed the protest petition filed by the Bar association.

Furthermore, the application filed by the accused in the case was also rejected by the court. In the application, they had objected to the appearance of advocate Anupam Gupta in the case on behalf of the Bar body on grounds that he had already appeared in it earlier as public prosecutor.

The decision was well accepted by Gupta, who said that the Bar's paramount objective in intervening in the case was to make sure that it is not given a burial by the acceptance of report.

A closure report in the case was filed by the CBI last December since it did not receive the sanction to put on trial some of the main suspects. It was after when Rs 15 lakh was delivered at the door of HC judge Nirmaljit Kaur on August 13, 2008 did the scam appeared.
