California to get electric Minis
Los Angeles - BMW is to produce 500 electric-powered Minis for the California market to comply with new state regulations that require automakers to offer zero-emissions vehicles, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
The report said the Minis will be partially assembled alongside the normal cars in Oxford, England, minus the engine, gearbox and fuel tank. Then they will be shipped to parent company BMW's facility in Munich to be fitted with all the necessary electric drivetrain components and batteries and be painted silver with yellow roofs. (dpa)
