ZTE To Focus More On R&D OperationsZTE, the worldwide provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, has strengthened its focus on the research and development (R&D) to introduce cheap products in the global market without compromising on the quality.

ZTE, which has 16 R&D centers in China, spends around 10 percent of its income on R&D activities.

Moreover, the company also has 7 R&D centers in other countries comprising India and Pakistan.

About 40% of its work force comprise of personnel from the R&D department.

The company today announced the signing of a US$100 million deal with China Mobile's Pakistan arm (CMPak) to help them swell the capacity of their GSM infrastructure as part of its Phase 2 project.

TRAI for market determination of prices for 2G spectrum

TRAIThe Telecom Regulatory Authority of Indian is in favor of market-based determination of prices of 2G licenses. The statement from the regulatory body came after the criticism of the union minister for Communication and IT, Mr A. Raja, on the issue of allotting spectrum without auction.

The chairman of TRAI, Nripendra Mishra said that the license should be allotted on the basis of the prevailing market prices. There is a need to develop a mechanism to capture the market prices for the license, for the maximum earning of state exchequer and bring more transparency in the system. He disclosed that the government had not asked for its views on spectrum allocation.

Bharti Teletech Receives Major Order From BSNLBharti Teletech, one of India's top makers and distributors of telecom & allied products, announced that it has pocketed a major order from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), India's major telecom operator, to make fixed line phones.

Under the deal valued at over Rs 350 million, BSNL will make and supply more than 9 lakh CLIP phones for BSNL within the next 5 months.

The pact further strengthens Bharti Teletech’s association with BSNL.
