The promoters of leading telecom product manufacturer, Kavveri Telecom Products Ltd have pledged 5% stake of the company, as collateral security for credit limits sanctioned to the firm, with the State Bank of India.

The company, in a filing before Bombay Stock Exchange, said, "Promoter has pledged shares with State Bank of India, Bangalore as a collateral security for the credit limits sanctioned to the company by the bank."

Government may take final decision today to allow unrestricted Internet telephony in the country amid stiff oppositions from various telecom services providers. Telecom Commission, the decision-making body for telecommunications, is meeting on Monday to discuss the matter.

Internet telephony would allow customers to make cheap STD and local calls from computers to mobile phones, eroding dominance of telecom companies in the domestic market.

Reliance-Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG) owned Reliance Communications (R-Com) has launched Global System for Mobile (GSM) in New Delhi on Sunday, after starting services in several parts of the country.

R-Com regional head - Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan circles, C. S. Rana said, "We got the licence for GSM services last year and within 11 months the company has launched the services in almost the entire country." He said that its low-tariff and affordable services besides good coverage, that are attracting people toward Reliance.

On Thursday, a plan to auction third-generation radio frequencies for wireless service providers was referred to Group of Ministers (GoM) by the Union Cabinet. In order to drive next-generation mobile offerings, 3G services are quite vital. The offerings include high-speed internet and video conferencing.

With the aim to become the first operators in the world to launch 4G, TeliaSonera has signed contracts with Ericson and Huawei and by 2010; the 4G network would be rolled out commercially.

It won't be wrong to say that this contract has made an important step in the evolution of TeliaSonera to the next generation network.

For the initial 4G City network in Stockholm, Ericson has been chosen by TeliaSonera, while for the initial 4G City network in Oslo, Huawei has been selected. Furthermore, it has also been learnt that the evaluation of suppliers for its 4G networks in the Nordic and Baltic countries are said to be on.
