Bilbao, Spain - A Spanish burglar called police to inform them about the crime that he was just committing, Basque regional officials said Wednesday.

The 33-year-old man with a criminal record smashed the window of a bar in Getxo and called police overnight.

When police officers arrived, they found the burglar sitting in the bar and eating crisps he had taken from there.

The man said he had intended to steal things from the bar, without making it clear what made him pick up the phone. (dpa)
