BSE 500 Review Gainers (April 2009): Nirmal BangFor the month of April 2009 the major gainers in BSE 500 were Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd, Anant Raj Industries Ltd, Jai Corp Ltd, Essar oil Limited and BF Utilities. The major losers were Akruti City, Lakshmi Energy foods Ltd, KSK Energy Ltd, Divis Laboratories and Provogue (India) ltd.

Reliance Industrial Infrastructure Ltd surged 150.38 % over the last one-month period on rumors that it might be merged with another unlisted group company, which owns a 1440-km gas pipeline in the country. However the company has denied the rumors.

Jai Corp has increased by 110.87% in the month of April 09.

Anant Raj Industries was up by 101.37% in the month of April 09. It is a debt free real estate company and there was some fund buying in the scrip.

Essar Oil jumped 98.76% in month of April 2009 on market speculation that it would delist its shares and list Essar Global, the holding company of the Essar group's businesses in India and overseas. Essar Oil had intended to delist its shares in January 2007. This was called off in November 2007 as the company announced a plan to treble refining capacity and issue global depository shares to the promoter group on a preferential basis. Another buzz floating on the counter was that the oil major was poised to take management control of Kenya Petroleum Refinery (KPRL) in Mombasa through the acquisition of a 50% stake for about US$ 450 million after the Kenyan government reportedly dropped objections that had delayed the deal for at least one-and-a-half years. The acquisition of KPRL would enable Essar Oil to reach a refining capacity of a million barrels of oil per day by 2012.

The realty sector was up by 36.49% during April 09 supported BF Utilities increase of 83.98%.
