Britney Spears' folks hoping custody loss will serve as ‘wake-up call’ for her

Britney Spears - Custody of ChildrenWashington, Oct 3: Britney Spears received a big blow after losing the custody of her two kids, but the singer’s parents are cheering the verdict, as they believe that this crisis in her life could actually prove to be a wake-up call for her.

On Oct 1, Los Angeles superior court judge Scott Gordon ordered the singer to surrender the custody of Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, to ex-husband Kevin Federline "until further order of the court.”

And Britney’s parents, James Parnell Spears, and Lynne Spears, feel that losing the babies will finally make their daughter realize the messy state of her life.

"Not because they want to punish Britney, but because they are hoping this will be the wake-up call she needs to get her life in order," E! Online quoted a Spears family friend, as saying.

"So far, nothing else has worked. Not advice from her relatives, business handlers, legal representatives. No one can get through to her these days. Maybe losing her babies will finally do the trick,” the family friend added.

Gloria Allred, the attorney who repped the singer's former bodyguard Tony Barretto, said that the court had actually given a second chance to Spears to take control of her life.

"We're hoping this change of custody will give her the strong incentive that she needs to get help so that she can one day be the responsible parent the children deserve to have. The court's really given her a chance. The court really gave her a second chance,” Allred said.

"If she doesn't have the children, if she wants to at least have visitation, she's going to take control of her life and get some help. If she doesn't want to have anything to do with the children, then nobody's going to be able to help her...” she added.

Meanwhile Spears' attorney, Sorrell Trope, said that the court ruling was because the singer’s camp wasn’t able to comply with ‘what the judge ordered’.

"We weren't able to prove compliance with what the judge ordered. Specifically the judge ordered that by 10 a.m. (Monday) morning, both parties show valid California driving licenses. I've been unable to produce evidence of that," Trope said.

Trope added that another reason behind the judge's temporary custody ruling "was a claim by Mr. Federline's attorney that she had not complied with a previous order the court had made – before I came on board (as lawyer) – about having a random drug and alcohol test."

However he insists that "there's no evidence that she actually failed a test." (ANI)
