British royals "furious" about bonfire in Windsor Castle grounds

British royals "furious" about bonfire in Windsor Castle grounds London  - Britain's Prince Philip was Tuesday reported to be furious with forestry workers at Windsor Castle who let a bonfire burn out of control, forcing them to make an emergency call to the fire brigade.

The Duke of Edinburgh, 87, who is Ranger of Windsor Great Park, the large estate and game park surrounding the caste, had asked staff to get rid of a large pile of logs.

Workers set light to the wood Monday, but ended up having to call the fire brigade as the bonfire got out of control, the Sun reported.

In 1992, large parts of historic Windsor Castle, just outside London, were destroyed in a major fire.

"There was a bonfire yesterday in the Great Park. The fire brigade was called as a precautionary measure. There was no threat to the surrounding vegetation," a statement from Buckingham Palace said Tuesday.(dpa)
