Booth for lone voter in Indian elections

Gujrat MapNew Delhi - A polling booth will be set up in the Gir forest of India's western Gujarat state for a single voter when general elections are held in April-May, an election official said Monday.

The polling station is located at Banej in Junagadh district in the Gir Forest, a national park which is home to the last of the Asiatic lions, India's Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami said while announcing the schedule for general elections.

The lone voter in Banej was the priest of a temple located in the forest, Junagadh district collector Ashwin Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI news agency.

Elections are scheduled to be held in Gujarat on April 30.

Gopalaswami said a polling station would be set up in central Chhatisgarh state for just two voters, while three booths in north-eastern Arunachal Pradesh have three voters each.

A total of 714 million voters are eligible to vote in the general elections. About 58 per cent voters cast their ballots in the last general elections in 2004. (dpa)
