Bollywood too gets exam jitters
It's not just the students who are getting the exam jitters. Even film producers and distributors are feeling the heat. Keeping in view the board exams, producers have decided to postpone their major releases till May. Reason: They don't expect to see a huge rush in theatres with both students and their parents busy preparing for the exams.
"It is not that films won't be released altogether during this period. But it was decided to stall some of the major releases till the last week of April. By that time, all exams will be over," a trade analyst told DNA.
If that is to be believed, cinema halls will be forced to run either B grade movies or some old releases.
Big releases of the year like the New York directed by Aditya Chopra and starring John Abraham and Katrina Kaif will be released on May 8. Also, Aladdin starring Amitabh Bachchan and Life Partner directed by Rummy Jaffrey and starring Akshay Khanna, Fardeen Khan and Tusshar Kapoor will come out in July.
"Usually, it happens every year. But the things have changed more in the past couple of years. Low budget movies especially meant to be screened for multiplex audience will be released during exam times. It is true that all big movies will hit the theatres only from May," said Amjad Khan, a film exhibitor and owner of Ankur and Alka theatres.
However, the only exception is Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, a comedy film will hit the screens on Friday.
"The film's promos are already a hit and artistes like Kunal Khemu, Sonu Sood, Paresh Rawal will get a good audience for the film," said Sanjay Chattar, a film distributor.
Chattar, however, said exams and cricket do play spoilsport for the cinema business.
"During the month of April, when IPL matches will begin, cinema business will again get affected. Major releases have been put on hold by the producers only because of these factors," he added.
