BMW to launch new series 1 models at the Frankfurt Motor Show

BMW to launch new series 1 models at the Frankfurt Motor ShowGerman Auto major, BMW is planning to release the second generation BMW 1 Series models at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13.

The first generation of the series, which was launched seven years ago, did not win market approval at launch but still managed to record more than 2.2 million units in worldwide sales. BMW has said that it has addressed most of the criticisms of the old versions including ugly design, cramped rear interior, harsh ride, some poor areas of interior quality and expensive.

The 116 ES model will be priced at £19,375 while the 120d with Sport or Urban trim will come for £24,720. The 118d model, which has a fuel economy of 62.8mpg, emissions of 118g/km of CO2 and is capable of speeding from zero to 62mph in 8.9 seconds, will be priced at £23,270 with Sport and Urban trim.

All the BMW 1 Series models will come with start and stop, 16-inch alloy wheels, four airbags, radio and CD player, air-conditioning, 60:40 folding rear seats, ISOFIX fittings and a leather steering wheel as standard.

Users can also choose SE specification for a 6.5-inch screen and iDrive controller, Bluetooth, USB connection, multi-function steering wheel and speed limiting function. The Sport version adds 17-inches alloys, a dark chrome exhaust pipe, black grille, air intake surrounds, rear bumper trim, sports seats, sports steering wheel and enhanced interior trim.

The Urban trim variant offers a different type of 17-inch wheel, chrome grille, cloth and leather seats and an interior trim in black or white.

BMW believes that the second generation of its BMW 1 Series models will be able to redefine the efficiency and quality standards for premium compact cars.
