BJP leaders demand Delhi CM Sheila’s resignation
BJP leaders led by V. K. Malhotra on Sunday met the President Pranab Mukherjee and submitted a memorandum demanding the dismissal of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
They demanded either Sheila Dikshit should resign or her government be dismissed in view of her indictment by Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin.
Malhotra argued that the Prime Minister had promised to offer a very strong Lokpal Bill and that the decisions of Lokayukta would be implemented without favour or fear; but when Justice Sarin indicted CM Dikshit and her Ministers over serious issues, the President referred the matter to the Union Home Ministry which in turn sent the matter back to the Delhi government.
Arguing on the issue, Prof. Malhotra lamented, "In this roundabout way the decisions remain unimplemented and usually get relegated to the waste basket."
Lokayukta Sarin ruled that CM Dikshit and her Ministers were guilty of misusing taxpayers' money for personal aggrandizement and misrepresentation of accomplishments in context of party promotion. The Lokayukta also slapped the CM with a fine of around Rs 11 crore.
Vijay Goel, President of Delhi BJP, demanded that Ms Dikshit should take off its political advertisements from all the hoardings, on which taxpayers hard earned was being wasted.
