Bid for Slumdog
The cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire are reaping the fruits of the movie's success at the Oscars, and the film's memorabilia is selling like hotcakes. The last of three special collectors' editions of the book Slumdog Millionaire, originally authored by Vikas Swarup as Q&A, is up for grabs at a charity auction on eBay. What makes this edition special is that it's been personally autographed by Slumdog... stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto.
“The third auction has had 18 bids and 244 unique visitors so far. The starting price for the charity auction was Rs 270 and the current price is
Rs 6,200. The auction is on eBay till March 2 and we hope it does better than the first auction which was held before the Oscars,” says Deepa Thomas, senior manager – Pop Culture, eBay India.
The first charity auction began on February 16 and ended on February 23 at Rs 16,600, and the winning bidder was Geert Robberechts, from Belgium. The second book was bought by Ayush Raju from Hyderabad at Rs 5,000, also on February 23, Deepa adds.
All proceeds from the auction of the book will go to Plan India foundation, which works to promote child rights and improve the quality of life of vulnerable children. “eBay India has a charity fundraising platform that actively supports leading NGOs and socially responsible corporates and celebrities who can raise funds through charity auctions, merchandise sales or donation collection. eBay does not charge any fee from the NGOs; rather, it helps them create awareness for their cause. Plan India is one of the NGOs we work with,” Deepa says.
