Best Buy to offer $100 discount on Windows 8 touchscreen PCs during two-week promotion

Best Buy to offer $100 discount on Windows 8 touchscreen PCs during two-week promotionAccording to a Friday report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Best Buy will be offering a $100 discount on Windows 8 touchscreen desktops and laptops during a two-week promotion which begins this Sunday, February 24.

With the discount yet to appear on the Best Buy website, the retailer has not yet provided any detailed information about the devices which would be part of the two-week promotion. However, with the WSJ report revealing that only the `touchscreen' Windows 8 PCs will be discounted by the retailer, it is apparent that Microsoft's own Surface Pro and other Windows 8 tablets will not be included in the discount deal.

The promotion - which will run till March 7 - marks an evident attempt by Best Buy to attract customers who may decided against the purchase of touchscreen PCs because of their higher cost - often as much as an additional $200 - as compared to equivalent computers without touchscreens.

According to the information shared by Best Buy with the WSJ, most potential touchscreen PC buyers are turned off because of the higher cost of these devices. Best Buy also added that an internal research carried out by the company had revealed that consumers were "significantly happier" with Windows 8 touchscreen PCs vis-a-vis the non-touchscreen computers.

About its two-week promotion, Best buy said that it is "is absorbing the cost of the discounts along with PC makers, Microsoft, and Intel."
