The battle's just begun

Sandalwood's biggest excitement in the past decade has been the battle between Ramya and Rakshita for the numero uno position. With Rakshita's retirement from the industry after marriage, it seemed like the fight had ended. But from what has been learnt, both the actresses are preparing to enter politics in the next couple of years, and have both declined offers to contest for the next elections.

Ramya, we are told, was approached to contest on a Congress ticket. A source close to the actress says, “It was Oscar Fernandes who had approached her, and was quite insistent that she contest in the forthcoming elections. But Ramya didn't want to commit at that time, as she felt she needed to prepare better to take up politics full time. That's why she had declined the offer, stating that she would need more time to prepare herself.” After all, Ramya's close affiliation to the Congress begins at home – with her adopted father RT Narayan, a staunch SM Krishna supporter.

As for Rakshita, the actress has been seen at gatherings in her husband's hometown Mandya and Maddur. The actress-turned-homemaker had an offer to contest for elections as well, and this was from Congress's biggest rival, BJP. “She didn't want to make such a commitment at that time. Rakshita is a new mother, and cannot take on this big a  responsibility at the moment. She would need at least two to three years to mentally ready herself for the role,” says a source close to her.  The other similarity between the two actresses is that both have been addressing the issue of urban youth shying away from voting, and have canvassed for the same.

Both actresses spent a lot of time bonding, during the Amrutha Mahotsava rehearsals, last week. But it looks like two or three years down the line, both will  be up against each other on a different battlefield. When contacted, both  remained non-committal but we didn't hear them deny anything either!
