Barcelona prepare huge offer for Eto'o, reports say

Barcelona prepare huge offer for Eto'o, reports say Barcelona  - Barcelona are reportedly willing to make a huge offer to get Samuel Eto'o to remain within its ranks until 2014, although the Cameroon striker's future remained shrouded in mystery.

"The player asks to earn 9 million euros (11.4 million dollars) per season. Barcelona would be willing to get close to that figure because they think the Cameroon player should be paid in accordance with his quality, although Leo Messi would remain the best-paid footballer in the squad," the daily Sport reported Monday.

Eto'o is having a great season and has scored 23 goals in 23 games in La Liga. He is the top scorer in Europe's major leagues.

The current contract for the striker, set to turn 28 next month, expires in 2010, and Barcelona - who were set to trade him off last summer but found no suitable buyer - want to make sure as soon as possible that he will stay.

However, Eto'o himself has made cryptic comments lately.

"I have made my decision but I will not say anything for now," he told the French weekly Sportweek in an interview.

"It is all very mysterious. If he has made the decision, the logical thing would be for the club to know about it," the daily Mundo Deportivo noted. (dpa)
