Bangladesh to restrict public movement at night along Indian borderThe government of Bangladesh has said that it will take steps to restrict the movement of people during night time along the border with India.

The announcement was made after a meeting chaired by Bangladesh Home Minister Sahara Katun was organized to review the situation. Ms Khatun was speaking to the media after the inter-ministerial meeting when she said that local authorities and Bangladesh Rifles will be instructed to take immediate steps to follow up the decision.

"We have issued such instructions to all DCs and unit commanders of BDR of the bordering district to contain killing of Bangladeshi nationals by our counterparts," said Ms Khatun.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, Director General of BDR Major General Md Rafiqul Islam, Additional Director General of the Coastguard and other high ranking officials of various ministries.

Ms Khatun has reiterated that the government will move ahead to solve the border issues with India, as agreed during the last visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India, on the basis of Mujib-Indira Border Agreement of 1974.
