Bagan reaches into final of IFA Shield
Mohun Bagan team has booked its berth in the final of the IFA Shield after defeating United SC 5-4 in penalty shootout at Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Salt Lake. Bagan will now play against Churchill Brothers in the title summit.
Both teams were unable to open their account in the regulation period and extra time of the semifinal match. The result of the match came out in the tie-breaker. Bagan won the match even after they were reduced to 10 players after just 8 minutes of the play.
Substitute goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee gave Bagan advantage by saving first stroke of Jayanta Sen in the tie-breaker. Marcos Pereira, Rakesh Masih, Snehashis Chakraborty, Surkumar Singh and James Singh stroked ball in the nets as Bagan raced away with match.
The other semifinal match between Churchill Brothers and Air India also went to penalty shootout as both teams were tied at 1 goal each at full time. Churchill Brothers won that match by 4-2 to advance into the finals.
