Asus to release new EeePC

Ratingen, Germany  - With its first EeePC a best-seller, hardware maker Asus is now introducing a new ultra-mobile computer. The EeePC 900 will hit stores in late June and cost 399 dollars.

The 990 gramme laptop offers an 8.9 inch display and will come with Windows XP pre-installed. For storage, a 12-gigabyte Solid State Drive (SSD) will be used instead of a traditional hard drive. SSDs are notable for not having any moving parts, as they store data in nonvolatile flash memory.

The EeePC 900 will come with 1 gigabyte of RAM, the manufacturer reports. The unit also comes equipped with wireless lan (WLAN). While it only supports the slightly slower WLAN 802.11b/g standard, that should be enough for most applications.

The machine includes three USB ports for connecting external drives, hard drives, printers, and other devices. The low-priced EeePC also features an integrated camera and an SD/MMC card slot. (dpa)
