Asciano bags $150 million contract

Asciano bags $150 million contractAsciano Ltd. has signed a contract with Sadleirs Transport for making long-term rail haulage system. The total worth of the contract is $150 million over the next seven years.

While Asciano is into the business of operating ports and rail roads, Sadleirs is into freight forwarding segment.

Pacific National is the parent company of Asciano and it would be managing the transport needs of Sadleirs' in between Melbourne and Perth. The company already looks after the transport rail vans system between Sydney and Perth.

The new contract will bring more flexibility for both the partners. Said Mark Rowsthorn, the Chief Executive and Managing Director of Asciano that the deal has been possible because of the willingness and capacity of Pacific National that allows it to take up different contracts and fulfill them.

And about the plans of Sadleirs, the Managing Director Ian Cook said that it is now looking for growth opportunities and wants the re-development of Kewdale rail freight terminal in Western Australia. It has planned to construct a new rail freight terminal in Spotswood and Victoria, too.
