  Anti-KKNPP activists defy prohibitory orders to siege the nuclear plantDefying prohibitory orders, PMANE activists joined by hundreds of locals laid a siege to the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) through sea on Monday.

Fishermen and women from Tirunelveli district turned up in large numbers in fiber boats with black flags to lay a siege to the nuclear plant to express their protest.

More than 500 locals participated in the protest, even though Tirunelveli collector had imposed the section 144 (1) CrPC in areas covering 7 kilometers around the nuclear plant

S. P. Udhayakumar, convener of PMANE, criticized the government saying, "The Government seems to be stubborn in implementing the project. That is great injustice to the Kudankulam people and fishermen."

Udhayakumar also condemned the government's attitude arguing that no proper disaster training was provided to the local community.

Meanwhile, police is also probing the transfer of Rs 30 lakh by a London-based software engineer Anand alias Joshua Anand to the bank account of Ambika, the wife of anti-nuclear activist linked to the agitation.

The case against Ambika has been registered under Section 102 of CrPC, which provides the police with powers to take action against fraudulent dealings.
