According to a recent report, it has been revealed that the Kiwifruit in the area is being affected by a certain disease that is extremely dangerous to the health of the crop. This has called for an announcement by the health authorities of the vicinity that the entire crop will now be sprayed with antibiotics that would prevent the crop from getting spoilt further. There are many farmers who have lost all their crop of the season to this disease.

The spray of antibiotics, however, has sparked further concerns in the mind of the farmers. They aren’t sure whether they should spray their crop with it or not as they are worried about the health of the consumers as well as how it will affect the exports.

There is a need to control the disease while there is still time, otherwise it might mean huge losses to the farming industry.

“In this last block we have symptoms and it looks like we'll have to carry on and cut the complete orchard out”, said Bruce Hutchinson, one farmer who lost all his kiwifruit plants.

The name of the virus that is affecting the plants is the PSA-V strain and there is a need to control it immediately. All the kiwifruit farms are now going to be sprayed with these antibiotics as a precautionary measure.
