Air New Zealand expects to receive three Dreamliners till next year
Air New Zealand has indicating that it is expecting Boeing to deliver three 787 Dreamliners until the year 2014 even as the large plane has been affected by a battery problem that grounded the entire fleet.
Air New Zealand is set to receive the next model of the787 Dreamliners and believes that as it is a version of the current model, its testing and certification might be completed soon. The airline also expects Boeing to resolve the battery issue with the planes soon. Air New Zealand's new chief executive Christopher Luxon pointed out that the production of the planes have started and Boeing is working to resolve issues with the model.
The plane maker working with the investigators form the government to determine the issue affecting the battery of the plane that has resulted in grounding of the aircrafts around the world. Investigators noted that the damaged battery showed evidence of short-circuiting and a chemical reaction called `thermal runaway'. In thermal runaway, high temperatures causes progressive higher temperatures causing damage to the equipment.
The investigators have not yet determined as to short-circuiting or the thermal runaway happened first. The cause of either of those two occurrences is yet to be determined by the investigators. The issue has resulted in all the airlines operating the plane to ground it until issues are resolved.
