Air India- IPG meetings finish without settlement

Air India- IPG meetings finish without settlementA meeting held between the management of state-run, Air India (AI) and the representatives of the Indian Pilots Guild (IPG) that was held at the Chief Labour Commissioner's office, ended without any settlement between the two parties.

The management of the airline did not accept any of the demands put forward by the striking pilots. The Delhi High Court (HC) had directed the two sides to reach an agreement and out of court and appear for conciliation proceedings before the Chief Labour Commissioner on July 6, 2012.

"In the meeting, the AI officials expressed their inability to provide any commitment on the reinstatement of pilots and on any other issues. Instead they requested the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner for more time. The management failed to reciprocate IPG's goodwill gesture of calling off the agitation and reporting to work," said EA Kapadia, General Secretary, Indian Pilots Guild in an official statement.

India civil aviation minister, Ajit Singh had repeatedly urged the striking pilots to call of their strike and report for work. He said that the airline was in a financial mess and as it was turning around and recovering, the pilots went on strike and made the situation worse.

The AI officisls responded by saying that the management will not accept the striking pilots' demands. The management has said that the cases of sacked piltos will only be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Delhi HC had asked the 424 striking IPG pilots to go back to work and the striking pilot have submitted an affidavit to the Delhi HC and the airline expressing willingness to join work.
