AI offering lowest fares on international routes
State-run, Air India is offering the lowest fares for its international flights as people shun the airline due to unreliability of service amid a prolonged strike by its pilots.
On travel portals, the tickets on the airline is now available for as much as half the price when compared to its rivals like Jet Airways in some flights. Travel agents say that the AI is fetching low fares due to unreliability concerns of the passengers who often are left stranded at airports due to unavailability of pilots to fly the plane.
India union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh had recently announced new plans for the international operations of state-run, Air India that I facing a prolonged strike by pilots. The new plans include two new flights to Kuala Lumpur and London and the resumption of flight services to Hong Kong, Osaka and Seoul by August 1. Mr. Singh said that the airline will also induct three Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircrafts this month.
It is believed that all of the 300 pilots of the airline, who have been on the strike for more than a month despite various efforts to end the strike and a court order declaring it illegal, will receive their termination letters soon. Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said that the management will have to device upon the issue of striking pilots who are refusing to go back to work even after a month of agitation.
