Advancement in prostate cancer research
A lead in case of prostate cancer study states that the drugs for cancer can now be made after knowing the genetic make- up of the cancer causing prostate cells.
Researchers were successful in extracting stem cells out of prostate tissues and alter them genetically so that they could turn cancerous.
According to Owen Witte, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator at the University of California, Los Angeles - it is the first time in the field of science when his team has made changes and were competent in contriving specific genetic changes into human prostate stem cells to change them into cancerous cells. He further adds, "Here you can pre program the genetic buffet, and then evaluate a compound in the face of those specific changes".
This advancement gives a clear indication of the specificity in knowledge of genes which in turns helps in developing the drug for the cancer by suppressing the responsible gene. It will lead to an understanding of various therapies involved and eliminating the best therapy out of them.
