ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has announced that it has bagged orders worth $100 million for substations to strengthen Saudi Arabia's transmission and distribution network.

As per order terms, ABB will design, supply, install and commission three 110-kilovolt substations that will serve the growing power needs of the Mecca region.

According to sources, the substations are scheduled to be started in fiscal 2011 and will be operated by Saudi Electric Company, the national power generation and distribution utility.

ABB is the world's leading supplier of air and gas-insulated substations, with an installed base of over 10,000 substations, across a range of voltage levels up to 800 kV.

As per media reports, ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that allow utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 120,000 people.
