AAI sues Kingfisher over six bounced chequesThe Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approached a court against Kingfisher Airlines as the airline was unable to clear its dues to the authority and six cheques given by the company totaling Rs 136.2 crore bounced in the last few months.

The AAI said that in order to recover the remaining part of the overall dues of Rs 280 crore from the company, it has filed a recovery suits so that it gets cover through the airline’s assets. The cash-strapped airline has been unable to pay its employees who have threatened strike several times and has also found it difficult to pay taxes on time resulting in freezing f its accounts by the authorities.

A spokesperson of the Kingfisher Airlines has only said that the company is in constant touch with the AAI over the matter. The AAI filed case under Negotiable Instruments Act in a metropolitan magistrate's court in Mumbai after six cheques given by the airline bounced in the few months.

According to some officials, the AAI was trying to be helpful to the airline but now it had to borrow money at high interest rates due to non-payment of dues by the airline. It was forced to act against the company as the problem persisted for almost a year.
