38 National and International Players Looking to Partner with NZ in Super Fast Internet Roll-Out
As has been confirmed by the country's Communications and Information Technology Minister Steven Joyce, as many as 38 local and international groups have expressed interest in partnering with the New Zealand Government for its $1.5 Billion ultra fast broadband internet plan.
Minister Joyce has shared that the list of 38 groups who have expressed interest has the names of some “significant international players”. The NZ Government had sent out proposals for participation last month, along with specific terms and conditions of investment, as well as technical specifications. Also shared was the preferred financial model for co-investing so that potential partners get a clear picture of everything.
Under the Government's proposed plan, within the coming 10 years, as many as 75% New Zealanders will be able to enjoy a new broadband connection offering super high speeds, something for which the authorities are looking for partners to co-invest in areas of infrastructure, deployment and operation.
Minister Joyce has confirmed that the Government is now getting close to choosing the private sector partners who will join hands with the country's authorities and help in taking the project forward. The 38 groups who have lodged an interest now have until January 28,
2010 to share a full proposal.
