Indian viewers will get to see more than 300 digital channels. India has 75 million cable and satellite TV users. I&B Minister Priyaranjan DasMunsi informed that 40 new channels have been permitted broadcasting to Indian audience. Half of the channels will be related to news and current affairs.

In the past three months, 40 channels have been granted permission and the total number of channels available to Indian viewers has reached 312.

Mr. Dasmunsi also pointed out that multiplexes are expensive and the country needs low-cost theatres. A common man is not able spend that much of money and Cinema has gone out of his reach.

Mr. Dasmunsi also commented on the TRP ratings. He said that the ratings should cover more areas and houses.
