26/11 Mumbai attacks accused Ajmal Kasab hanged  Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, Pakistan national who was involved in the bloody Mumbai terror attacks of 2008, was hanged in the high-security Yerwada Jail in Pune early this morning.

The 26/11 attacks accused was being kept at the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai, but he was moved to the Yerwada jail on Sunday night and hanged by neck at 7:30am on Wednesday, after a four-year-long trial.

Ten terrorists had attacked Mumbai on 26 November in 2008, in which a total of 166 people had lost their lives. Of the ten terrorists, only one was arrested alive - Kasab.

He was convicted on numerous charges ranging from sedition to waging war against India. The Bombay High Court sentenced him to death in October last year. The Supreme Court turned down his appeal in August this year.

Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde said that his ministry had recommended that his mercy petition should be rejected, and the President of India rejected the mercy petition on November 8.

Announcing the development, Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil said, "Kasab's hanging is a tribute to all the 166 people killed as well as those police officer martyred in the attack."

BJP welcomed the move. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, vice-president of BJP, said that hanging of the Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist was a warning for anyone trying to originate terror attacks in India.
