2023 Peugeot e-208 EV to deliver more power & longer range, thanks to e-308 powertrain

The 2023 Peugeot e-208 subcompact electric hatchback will come with equipped a more powerful powertrain that will provide a significant increase not only in power but also in driving range.

The French automobile brand announced that the electric technology that it is currently offering on the all-electric Peugeot e-308 compact car will now also be made available on the subcompact e-208 in 2023. The car brand also claimed that the upcoming subcompact electric hatchback will be able to deliver 15 per cent more power and 10.5 per cent more range than its existing version.

Providing details, the manufacturer revealed that the subcompact electric hatchback will be able to cover up to 248 miles (roughly 399.2 kilometers) on a single charge, thanks to its new 48.1-kWh battery pack.

More precisely, the new electric motor will increase the subcompact electric hatchback’s maximum power from 100 kW (134 hp) to 115 kW (154 hp) and 260 Newton-meters (192 pound-feet), while its new, more efficient 51-kWh (gross capacity) high-voltage battery pack will boost the vehicle’s range by 23 miles to 248 miles (roughly 400 kilometers) between two charges.

It may be noted here that the new battery pack in the upcoming subcompact hatchback will have a gross capacity of 51 kWh but its usable capacity will be 48.1 kWh. Still, it will be significantly bigger than the existing model’s 46.6-kWh battery. According to Peugeot, it gave top priority to efficiency while deciding the new powertrain for the upcoming electric subcompact hatchback, which aims for an average energy consumption of approximately 12 kWh per one hundred kilometers.

The optimizations made to the all-electric e-208 compact car in late 2021 will also be carries over to the new model. The list of those optimizations includes a heat pump coupled with a humidity sensor that come installed on top of the windscreen to make the most of the energy efficiency of the heating and air conditioning, class A+ tires that reduce loss of energy through friction, and a revised transmission ratio of the gearbox that improves the driving range on the road. The aforementioned heat pump and humidity sensor work more efficiently at low outside temperatures, extending the driving range of the vehicle by 24 miles (roughly 38 kilometers) on city roads with temperatures close to 32°Fahrenheit.

The new all-electric Peugeot e-208 hatchback will be available in the UK and some other European countries from the start of 2023.
