Zardari, Nawaz may discuss Musharraf’s impeachment today

Islamabad, Apr 15: PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz SharifPPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif may discuss the question of impeaching President Pervez Musharraf in their one-to-one meeting slated for today, though the focus of the meeting would remain on the process to be adopted to restore the deposed Supreme Court judges.

Besides, the two leaders might also discuss a strategy for the initiation of dialogue process to bring peace in tribal areas, particularly Waziristan.

Though Musharraf’s impeachment issue is not on the agenda of today’s meeting, it might crop up during their discussion because of apprehensions over President Musharraf’s reactions to the judges’ restoration, The News quoted PPP sources as saying.

It is argued that Musharraf’s fate would be sealed once the deposed judges are restored. But, there are quite a few who fear that Musharraf could use his power under Article 58(2)(B) to dissolve the assembly and dismiss the elected government. However, most of the PPP-PML (N) politicians agree that Musharraf would not do so because it would lead to anarchy and chaos.

Though the two leaders had earlier discussed the question of Musharraf’s impeachment, no decision was taken as it was considered right to first achieve the goal of reinstatement of the judges.

But, now, coinciding with the judges’ restoration, the option of initiating impeachment motion to restrict the President from using any of his constitutional authority is also considered a doable initiative. (ANI)
