Zain approves Bharti Airtel’s bid

Bharti AirtelAmidst the cautious warnings to Bharti Airtel by market experts due to the debt that the proposed acquisition of Zain will bring in under the roof the company, the African telecom operator has cleared the bid of Bharti.

In fact, though the deal is total worth $9 billion but with the additional debt of around $1.7 billion on the books of Zain takes the worth of the deal even up to $10.7 billion. While the deal will fulfil the thirst of Sunil Bharti Mittal to enter the African market with the acquisition of Zain, the market experts are giving mixed views on the same.

People familiar with the matter believe that the papers will be signed in the coming few days. Notably, the company tried to acquire MTN twice before the talks failed with the Africa's largest telecom operator.

But with the acquisition of Zain, Bharti Airtel will become the 7th largest telecom operator. Market watchers are of a view that the African market is at the same position where the Indian telecom market was 5-6 years back and hence will witness growth in times to come. However, the diversified structure of the African market is what worries many experts.
