Yuki Bhambhri clinches ITF Futures title
Indian teenage sensation Yuki Bhambhri has won the men's singles title of the ONGC-ITF Futures after defeating Rupesh Roy at the Bengal Tennis Association complex in Kolkata on Saturday.
The fifth seeded Yuki defeated Rupesh in straight sets 6-3 7-6 (4) in final in 110 minutes to win the title and pocketed a cheque of Rs 97,812 as prize money. Yuki also gained 25 ITF points while Rupesh received an amount of Rs 67,716 and 14 points.
Yuki broke his opponent twice in the third and ninth games to win the first set in just 31 minutes. Rupesh competed well in the second set but he lost the set after it went to tie-breaker.
However, Yuki and his partner Young-Jun Kim of South Korea lost to the second seeded pair of Divij Sharan and Vishnu Vardhan in straight sets by
3-6, 0-6 in just 55 minutes in the doubles event. The top seeded Rohan Gajjar and Purav Raja won the doubles title after ousting Sharan and Vardhan 6-4, 7-5 in 80 minutes.
Gajjar and Raja pocketed a cheque of Rs 47,401 and 25 points while Sharan and Vardhan received Rs 24,829 and 14 ITF points.
