Yogurt hardly helps improve health
According to a research team from Autonomous University of Madrid, regular consumption of yogurt is not linked to improved health and quality of life. The study was carried out to gauge whether there is a link between the regular consumption of yogurt and the physical and mental improvement in health-related quality of life (HRQL).
The research claims that if people take yogurt on daily basis in the hope to lose weight and strengthen their bones, it is a futile endeavor. The study has found no link between the regular intake of yogurt and improvement in physical health.
For the study, the researchers the yogurt-eating habits of around 4,500 adults over the course of three and a half years. They wanted to find weather yogurt fans turn out to be better or the ones who don't include in it. They took a close look at how the yogurt had affected their health one way or the other.
Lead author Esther Lopez-Garcia wrote, “In comparison with people who did not eat yogurt, those who ate this dairy product regularly did not display any significant improvement in their score on the physical component of quality of life and although there was a slight improvement mentally, this was not statistically significant".
Up till now, several research papers have suggested that the consumption of yogurt could influence HRQL either directly or indirectly.
This might be due to the fact that yogurt is rich in calcium and protect the bones and which could help combat osteomuscular illnesses. It is one of the conditions with greatest negative impact on the quality of life.
Additionally, its consumption has also been associated with lesser weight increase and a lower rate of cardiovascular diseases.
