Sana'a  - Yemen on Thursday arrested 20 suspected Islamist extremists in connection with the terrorist attack on the US embassy the day before, Yemeni security forces said.

Yemen's Minister of Interior Rashed Mohamed According Al-Olaimi meanwhile stated that Wednesday's attack was in retaliation by extremist Islamist groups for crackdowns by Yemen's Ministry of Interior.

"The attackers put on explosive belts around their bodies and used gas cylinders to produce maximum explosive destruction," al-Olaimi was quoted by the Yemeni newspaper 26 September. (dpa)
