Xbox One should not be played vertically
Microsoft has warned that the Xbox One gaming device should not be played vertically as the device has a slot-loading drive.
Microsoft's senior director of product management and planning at Xbox, Albert Panello said that the $449 Xbox One should not be placed vertically due to the drive. Both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 come with slot-loading drives but support vertical and horizontal orientations.
He said, “We don't support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk. It wouldn't be a cooling problem, we just didn't design the drive for vertical. Because it's a slot loading drive, we just didn't design it for both.”
The Xbox 360 came with a tray drive but it is still not possible for the users to play it in vertical position. Vertical orientation is important is important for some of the users looking to save space in their home entertainment furniture. The gamers looking to stack multiple consoles alongside each other usually keep the playing device in a vertical position.
The company has now only said that 23 games will be available for the gaming device, when it launches sometime in November. The list includes two newly announced games that are expected to be ready at the time of the launch of the device.
