Itanagar, Jan 26 : Describing Arunachal Pradesh as a microcosm of India that recorded one of the highest per capita incomes, Governor Gen. (Retd.) J. J. Singh on Saturday exhorted the Arunachalees to work collectively to achieve the status of `Richest Indians' while contributing to nation building.

Addressing a mammoth gathering after unfurling the tri-colour on the occasion of 64th Republic Day at Indira Gandhi Park here, Singh highlighted the great cultural vibrancy of the state, which has been complimented with economic vibrancy.

"As a result of this economic vibrancy, our growth rate has been consistently higher than the national growth rate during the 11th five-year plan. It is worth mentioning that this is the first time during any of the five-year plans that we have surpassed the average national growth rates. This is indeed very encouraging," said the Governor.

Highlighting numerous ongoing developmental activities, particularly infrastructure like roads, airfields and railways which will be the drivers of prosperity supplemented by high potential tourism sector with numerous record and growth of agriculture and horticulture at almost three times of national average for the last few years, he said: "I have no doubt that we will be the richest Indians in a few years with the vast natural at our possession, like hydropower."

He lauded the praiseworthy coordination between the Army, Para-military and state police that resulted in the killing of 13 underground elements, arrest of 107 others and seizure of large cache of arms, ammunition and explosive.

He appreciated Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and the officers led by Chief Secretary H K Paliwal for visible improvement in administration and governance standards.

The state government announced 17 state awards on the occasion including four gold medals, five silver medals and eight commendation certificates.

Cultural programmes by the school children and troupes from all over the state added colour to the celebration.

The Chief Minister, his cabinet colleagues and people from all walks of life joined the celebrations with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour. (ANI)
