Women MNAs slug it out over Musharraf in National Assembly
Islamabad, June 4 : Female MNAs from the PML-N and the PML-Q indulged in a war of words inside the National Assembly yesterday over President Pervez Musharraf. While those belonging to the PML-Q defended Musharraf, the lady MNAs from the PML-N demanded his immediate removal from the office.
The charged up female members of the two rival parties mainly dominated the speeches in favour of and against the president, reported The News.
Tehmina Daultana and Ishrat Ashraf both from PML-N made stinging remarks against the president while Marvi Memon lead the PML-Q side to defend President Pervez Musharraf.
The House debated on Bajaur air strikes on May 21 but tilted into pro and anti-Musharraf speeches and the blame-game started when PML-Q MNA Amir Muqam condemned the assertion by PPP leader Taj Muhammad Jamali when he strongly criticised President Musharraf.
Amir Muqam said that President Musharraf was a constitutional president and that his policies had saved the country after 9/11, instigating PML-N members’ outcry.
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal strongly reacted to the praises saying that Musharraf was the man behind crisis that the country faced and alleged that the president and his henchmen had plundered the 75 billion dollars the country had received after 9/11.
He demanded to constitute a commission on Kargil issue, adding that Nawaz’s statement had proved correct after the statement made by Musharraf’s former aide Lt Gen (r) Jamshed Gulzar Kiyani in a TV interview Monday night. (ANI)
