Woman Present in Theatre during Shooting does not want Death Penalty for James Holmes
The Aurora theatre shooting trial will start hearing statements on Monday. James Holmes has pleaded not guilty on the grounds of mental disorder that swung him to kill 12 people and cause injuries to 70 others. Many people who were present in the theater at the time of shooting are expected to mark their presence in the trial.
Tayler Trujillo, who had gone with friends to attend the premiere of the new Batman movie, still has vivid memories of that night. She saw a man entering through an exit door and suddenly starting throwing a canister and opening fire. "It landed on the ground in front of me, the thing he threw, and we looked to the front and he was in the middle of the screen and he shot up and that was the point when everyone was like, Get down! Get down!" Tayler Trujillo said.
She added that she looked at her left and saw a guy with blood all over his body. The situation soon turned chaotic and everybody was running here and there to save their lives, she said.
It was a lucky escape for her, but not for many others. The incident has become two and a half years old, but the fallout still remains.
Her father, Larry Trujillo, Denver's former fire chief and Colorado's director of Homeland Security, is of the view that the defendant is giving the reason of insanity for the atrocity he committed to escape punishment. However, the shooter's parents have said that their son is suffering from a mental disorder.
Tayler said she is not the one who supports death penalty, so his fate should not be death. According to her, God will decide the best for his act.
