WIPO receives complaints over “dot triple x” sites
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is has received complaints from some over the issue of their names being used by someone to register a website with the ".xxx" domain name, usually called dot-triple x.
The WIPE has received complaints from banks, a jewelry business, an online shopping operation as well as others, according to sources. WIPO has received 10 cases against those who are registering sites using names of otehrs without their consent.
One of the action is reportedly from someone named George Streit against the registering of the site called femjoy. xxx. It is not confirmed if the complainant is the known US country music singer.
Director General Francis Gurry has said that the cases relating to cybersquatting have increased 2.5 percent in the previous year involving about 4,781 sites. More than 90 percent of the cases were solved with the verdict in favor of the complainant, indicating blunt stealing of names by others.
Many popular celebrities like film star Tom Cruise and soccer player Wayne Rooney, and major corporations and brand names like Barclays Bank and Nestle have filed complaints against webties using their names without their consent at some point of time.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) had released dot-triple x into operation on December 6, 2011.
