WikiLeaks offers $100,000 for disclosing yet-to-be-leaked Trans-Pacific Partnership Chapters
On Tuesday, WikiLeaks offered $100,000 as reward for anyone who reveals information about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal that is yet to be leaked.
The government-document exposing organization said that it already has and published some chapters of the secret deal, but they want to know every detail of it. In order to be able to pay the bounty, the organization has been crowdfunding.
By Tuesday noon, as many as 60 people pledged $23,674.17 to reward those who provide information about the deal. WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said, “The transparency clock has run out on the TPP. No more secrecy. No more excuses. Let’s open the TPP once and for all”.
As per people who are not in favor of the global deal, the White House should not carry out negotiations secretly with other 11 Pacific Rim nations. Critics, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) were of the view that they have right to ensure that the trade agreement provides needed protections for workers and the environment.
On the other hand, those in the favor of deal said that the deal is so sensitive that if its details are leaked then it can become threat for its progress. Already, the chapters that have been leaked by WikiLeaks have affected talks by inflaming interest groups.
In total, there are 26 ‘missing chapters’ that focus on areas like telecom, labor and agricultural goods to which WikiLeaks wants to have an access.
