Wajeehudin challenges Musharraf’s candidature in Pak EC

Islamabad, Sep 29 : Presidential candidate, Justice (retried) Wajeehuddin Ahmed, has filed an application in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) challenging President General Pervez Musharraf’s candidature for the country’s top post.

Wajeehudin submitted his application with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retired) Qazi Muhammad Farooq.

Under Article 41 (3), Musharraf could not contest the election, as he is the Chief of Army Staff, and had no graduation degree — the minimum educational qualification for the President, he said.

The lawyers fraternity of the country would challenge Musharraf’s eligibility under Article 63 of the Constitution, which does not allow a third term for the President, change in election rules and partiality of the EC, the Daily Times quoted Supreme Court Bar Association chief Munir Malik, as saying.
